A Whole Lot to Chat About

Well, it has been awhile since I have done some written update, so I better get to it! Last night I attended the Artist Reception of the "Downriver Council for the Arts - 2008 Members Show". It was a fantastic event, and the turnout was great. I was so pleased to get the chance to meet so many fellow artists face to face and to see the public that made time to attend. And... the ice cream social that took place in between was quite yummy too. I took a few pictures... but will publish more at Flickr in the future. No way I could post them all. I'd say about 75 - 100 artists were featured. I'll lead with my painting... shown a few posts back, close up.

I took my neighbor along with me. After the reception we decided on a light soup and salad dinner and then we high-tailed it down to the Wyandotte Art Fair. Wyandotte consistantly puts on one of the areas finest street fairs, and features some of the greatest artists from around the world. I totally fell in love with this exhibitors work. He does block prints... and they were top notch. I am sooooo thinking about going back when I am less rushed over this weekend and making a purchase. If for some reason I am not able to make it... I've got his information. Thank goodness he is from Michigan - and not across country. I absolutely have a place on my walls for his work. The artist is, Tim Gralewski. Here's a peek:

What else have I been up to... well, beside some interior work here and there - just for fun - (see my lampshade post a couple entries back) - my daughter painted my bathroom and I replace some of the store bought prints with my own. I repainted the frames and shelves to match the dark black tile border in my bathroom. That was a fast and fun project.

I have been working on several more paintings for upcoming shows... and today, finished this one - still untitled.

I am so excited and can hardly wait until next Friday, the 18th. I have signed up for a "Gallery Crawl"! The ticket was a mere $35 and includes continental breakfast, sack lunch, water, transportation and a tour of 15 galleries and studios in the northern metro area. It will be a "Power Tour" - no doubt - but how in the world can you beat that? The transportation alone (with the price gas is going for these days) is worth it! I can't wait to get a taste of the other side of town. I am looking forward to going. It's being hosted by Area 51 - though a local college - and put together by the Art Professor there.

I can't believe that I STILL have not made it to the Anton Gallery. I hope to get there this week.

Tomorrow, another Detroit Tiger Baseball game and the chance to take some Urban Decay photographs. This time, it's a day game!

Now, I'm off to visit your blogs and get my butt beat in Scrabble (ongoing) by Penster.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wow, lots going on here! Congrats on the show, your painting looks great on display.

Can't wait to see your next batch of urban decay pictures. I love it when you post them.

Thank you for the sweet comments on my blog. About knitting, I want to learn. I haven't knitted anything yet. I've watched some online tutorials to help my daughter with a little piece she's trying to knit, and I've got the itch to knit something myself!

Let's do it... I'll knit a scarf... and I can't wait to see yours! lol

Have a great Sunday!

xo,

Carmen

Maralena thank you for sharing the new gallery photos. It makes me want to visit and peruse your galleries. I was out on Friday night in Raleigh at our First Friday event. Beautiful, but I didn't see much new art - so it's nice to see something wonderful from your part of the country!

Thanks again,

Lise
